Arthiritis
Why does arthritis always seem to affect the same side?
Hello from a very hot Thursday afternoon, I’m just doing preparations for my free health talk on how to manage arthritis on Wednesday 26th August, 7pm! I’m going to be talking about all things arthritis, why it happens and what you can do to help if you suffer or have been told you have it.
I’m doing it because I hear all the time that people have been told they have arthritis without any meaningful ways of dealing with and ‘it’s just your age, here’s some pain relief, come back if it get’s worse’. Yet, in my experience, people are rarely told why arthritis happens, what makes it worse, what contributes to it and fundamentally, ‘why me!?’.
Arthritis isn't just wear and tear
I'm not saying your GP is wrong. I'm saying the wear and tear explanation, while not untrue, leaves out most of the story.
If arthritis were just wear and tear, why does it just affect one hip and not the other? Or one knee and not the other? That's not what happens. It tends to favour one side.
The pattern
Arthritis follows load. And load follows how you're moving, how you're compensating for old injuries, how stress has affected your posture over years, and which joints in your body aren't moving quite the way they should.
Most people have never had anyone assess that. Never had someone look at how weight is travelling through their body, which muscles have quietly switched off, which joint stopped moving properly after that ankle sprain ten years ago that they'd forgotten about.
That information exists. It's measurable. And when you see it, the picture shifts, from "nothing you can do" to "this is what's actually going on."
If this sounds like you, or someone you know
On Wednesday 26th August at 7pm I'm running a free talk at Goose Chiropractic in Dinnington on understanding and managing arthritis.
I'll be going through why arthritis develops where it does, what the process actually looks like, and what you can do about it at every stage. Including things you can start tomorrow, before you ever come near a chiropractic clinic.
On the night I'll also be offering a discounted initial assessment, which includes a posture and weight distribution scan. It takes a few minutes and shows exactly where your body is loading, and where it shouldn't be. A lot of people find it genuinely eye-opening, particularly if they've had joint problems for years without anyone ever looking at the bigger picture.
It's free to come along. No obligation. Bring someone with you if you want.

P.S You don’t have to have arthritis to attend! If you feel like this is something you want help to try and prevent then this is for you as well! Hint: age doesn’t necessarily mean you will get arthritis, it’s how your body is loaded before you get to that point! I’d love to see you there.
